Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 43 y/o female, 211 lbs. I had a cholestcystectomy 3 days ago. I am recovering fairly well, though I have a rash on my entire front torso that itches. Could it be caused by the iodine or hydrocodone? The last time I had surgery I had no reaction to hydrocodone.
The answer to your question is that Iodine and hydrocodone can potentially cause rash and itching as side effects, although they are not common. Iodine, when used topically or taken orally, can occasionally cause an allergic reaction that manifests as a rash or itching.
Hydrocodone, an opioid medication, can also cause itching as a side effect in some individuals. Your healthcare provider can assess your symptoms and determine the appropriate course of action. It doesn't look like an allergic reaction to the medicines.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Umer Farooq, General & Family Physician
