Question: I am going for a colonoscopy tomorrow morning at 10 am est I took the PEG polyethlene glycol with 2 litres of Gatorade but my stools are still dark at the beginning of the flush even after 6 or 8 bowel flushes I did not take the biscodyl tablets at noon when I was suppsed to can I take another laxative such as magnesium citrate and how much
Apparently apple juice is ok to drink before a colonoscopy but the apple juice I have is the cloudy kind not the clear kind of juice, is that ok?

Brief Answer:
avoid the cloudy juice, bisacodyl better with PEG solution

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

To ensure a clear field and safe procedure, the colon must be completely emptied prior to colonoscopy. Many regimens have been described in this regard. 4 liters of polyethylene glycol over 1- to 3-hours on the evening prior to colonoscopy. Regimen comprising 2 liters of PEG solution and 4 tablets of 5-mg bisacodyl tablets is most likely the one prescribed to you. You can can take the bisocodyl now as soon as possible. Magnesium citrate in combination with PEG solution is not as effective as bisacodyl and may lead to incomplete emptying of the colon. At least fourteen 8-ounce glasses of water or clear beverages during the day prior to colonoscopy should be taken to prevent dehydration. The clouded apple juice should be avoided and clear juices readily available should be preferred.
