What Causes Dark Stool After Taking Pro-biotic CD?
Question: hello,
I have been on amoxicillin 500 mg twice a day for less than a month now. I started on natures bounty probiotic CD will 2 billion live probiotic cultures yesterday. today I experienced very dark, maybe black stools. is this maybe a side effect for the probiotic or should I be worried?

Read and understood that your are taking Amox for a long time in a twice a day dosages and you took Probiotic CD yesterday and got dark may be black stools.
Usually probiotics are not known to give such a problems but since it contains the live organism can cause a problem due to altered bacterial flora. You are already taking Amoxicillin which might have caused disturbed bacterial flora.
The most important factors are:
What is the indication of taking Amoxicillin for so long?
Get the stool test done for 3 consecutive days from now on including the tests for occult blood to know whether there is a bleeding in the GI tract causing the black stools (malena) or this is just a normal altered stool.
The tests will guide about the future course of action.
