What Causes Delay In Periods?

Question: Hi i had a sex with my fiance on 4th September 2014.i used condom also for protection ..after sex she was blooding lil bit..which stops after washing...than she took i pill contraceptive pills on next day in evening...her period cycle is 10th September but she dint get her periods...so can u tell me when she will get her periods or what should we do to get her period. ??? Pls suggest.

Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The delay in periods is not due to pregnancy. Since she has a regular cycle Sept 4 was her relatively less fertile period and she took I-pill within 24 hours of unprotected sex.
The delay in her period is due to side effect of I-pill. Her cycle will be delayed for 1 to 2 weeks from period due date due to hormonal imbalance and mental stress. Most women get late period after intake of I-pill. However, I suggest her to undergo one home pregnancy test if the period is delayed by more than 1 week - after 17th Sept.
Frequent use of the pill will cause serious side effects and menstrual irregularities.
You should stick to a regular form of contraception. Its safer.

Thanks alot for help..just wanted to let u know that we had used condom also for protection and after next day she took i pill..in the evening...and now my fiance is in dubai...does she get home pregnancy kit there?? And do u think there is a chance of pregnancy test??? We had sex for the first time so i am lil bit nervous.

Using a condom further reduces the chances of pregnancy.
Home pregnancy kits are available at all the pharmacies in Dubai also. There is no need to test the urine right now. Please wait for the periods for at least one week more. The chances of pregnancy are less than 2%.

Hi dr XXXXXXX .this question is regarding anout last talk i had with u..it has been a week she still dint get her periods but 2 days back she had a bad stomach pain for 2 days. .so she took pain killer for that..but still she dint get her periods. As u had told me to wait for a week or. So...can u please suggest me what should we do now ..?? Should we wait for 1 more week?? I repeat that we had used condom and contraceptive pills also.

The delay is due to stress and anxiety and due to the side effect of I-pill. You can do a pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy and wait for one week more. In case she is apprehensive then she can consult a gynecologist and get hormonal tablets like Norethisterone prescribed to have a withdrawal bleeding.
