What Causes Delayed Menstruation?

Question: Hi,
Four months ago my wife got irregular period which she never had before. Suddenly period delayed and when we consulted doctor, she prescribed to take Regestrone 5mg tablet for 5 days. Then after period started and continued for 7 days. But again next period delayed and started after 2 months without taking any medicine. But period does not stop and continuing for last 23 days with intermittently heavy bleeding. So we thought to consult a different doctor. But he also prescribed Regestrone 5mg tablet for 21 days.
My doubt is whether same drug is used for both symptoms, to start and stop the period?
Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concerns.
Regesterone basically contains hormone called progesterone. This used to increase progesterone levels in the blood leading to stopping of excessive blood flow during periods.
