What Causes Deteriorating Sense Of Taste?
Drug induced, B Complex deficiency, Hypothyroidism, Neurology check-up.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. The first co-relation should be any of these current medications which were started around six months ago.
2. Assuming that the tongue is normal (no local cause, reflux, dehydration, food allergy or fungal infection), add B Complex with the Zinc supplement.
3. Hypothyroidism is a common cause. Hence the thyroid function tests must be done. Confirm if the hypertension is under control. Liver function tests should also be done.
4. A Neurologist's opinion must be sought as progressive loss of taste is seen in the early stages of many neurological disorders.
5. Request your physician to replace or discontinue each medication as in in your case this seems to be a side effect (direct or indirect, such as dry mouth or decreased salivation) of your medications.
6. Let me know the results.
If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
