What Causes Diarrhea After Having Spicy Food?

Question: I am a GERD patient. I had severe acidity problem about a month back. It also resulted in formation chronic phlegm and chronic cough. After completing one dose of antibiotics, the phlegm has stopped. I am consuming Razor-D regular for GERD and XXXXXXX Expectorant which has relieved the cough by 50%. Couple of days in the last week I had very spicy and rich food. I have diarrhea once in a while. Is it common for the above medicine?
Brief Answer:
It's a possibility
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your query.
I think I would be able to help you.
The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of extra esophageal manifestation of GERD.
I usually prefer to prescribe a different PPI. I would usually suggest a pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before food. It usually acts longer.
The loose motion starts may happen due to spicy non veg diet. However, you should avoid the spicy food.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
