default
Posted on Sat, 20 Sep 2014
Question: I am taking Alprazalom ER .5 mg with Lisinopril 10 mg every morning status post 2 tonic clinic seizures since May, 2014.
New neurologist also added Levetiracetam 500 mg (twice daily) but decreased RX to only 1x daily on a full stomach.
This new regime commenced on 8/8/14.
I have been very ill....diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, n headaches.
I also get chills n sudden hot sweats.
Cannot reach my doctor n don't have Internist appointment until 9/5/14.
Feel very sick n don't want to take the Levetiracetam at all.
Please advise.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Don't stop levetiracetam

Detailed Answer:
Dear
I am sorry for the symptoms you are suffering
It seems you are suffering the side effects of levetiracetam
Unfortunately you can't stop levetiracetam without changing it with any other anti epileptic
Dear you should absolutely schedule a brain MRI and an EEG
Don't stop it immediately
It should be absolutely changed, slowly decrease the dose of levetiracetam and increase the other epileptic
First confirm that you are suffering from epileptic seizure
In the meantime use alprazolam two times a day
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards

Had CBC/ ambulatory EEG/ Ct/ n MRI...all negative.
Neuro does not think I have epilepsy but thinks I tried to titrate too quickly off Alprazalom n then BP randomly spiked n I had the 2 seizure episodes in May and July, 2014.
Must I take the anti seizure meds still?
I truly believe it has maken me so very sick since starting it 3 weeks ago.

Brief Answer:
Be carefull

Detailed Answer:
Dear
if no paroxysmal waves are seen on EEG in my opinion you should stop levetiracetam but slowly, decrease the dosage by 250 mg each three days
Increase the dosage of alprazolam twice daily for one week then decrease it by 1/2tablet each five days
Hope you will be fine
Best regards
