Question: My 21 son has severe Autism. He also has brain damage since birth.he was in E.R. Tuesday around 11 following some anxiety attacks they gave him some shots two different kinds, one starting with letter h the other similar to Clonazepam.today he is still drowsy ,and has diarrhea ,could all of this be side effect of those drugs?
Brief Answer:
Diarrhea is not a usual side effect
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Your son was likely to have been given Injection Haloperidol to quieten him. Diarrhea is not a side effect of Haloperidol. It's possible that he has an abdominal infection and his behavioral abnormality could be due to that as individuals with autism behave in ways different from others.
Give him sufficient fluids and ensure that he doesn't become dehydrated. If he has fever or vomiting, it is better that he is seen by a doctor who understands people with autism.

What about being drowsy
Brief Answer:
Effect of medicines plus infection if present.
Detailed Answer:
Both Haloperidol and Clonazepam are sedative. In addition if the diarrhea is due to a bacterial infection or if he is dehydrated, he would be drowsy. If he does not improve he should be seen by a doctor.
