What Causes Diarrhea Post Minimally Invasive Surgery?

Question: I had minimally invasive surgery on 5thJune to repair esophageal hernia. Great first eight days post op. Ate soft calamari on evening of 10th day and two hours later, uncontrollable diarrhea. Lasted almost three days; nothing to eat except XXXXXXX and poached egg. Third evening felt bit better and hungry. Ate soft salmon and approximately, seven hours later reoccurrence of uncontrollable diarrhea. Now 10th day and very weak. Eating again and enjoying. Nevertheless, huge swelling of tummy with gas +++ and pain/discomfort. I don't believe I suffered from food poising as originally thought. Are these common post surgery symptoms? Thank you. XXXXXXX

These are not comment post operative symptoms

I would prefer you go for an abdominal scan and a complete blood panel

A stool report will help rule out Gastrointestinal infection

Follow up: Dr. Ajit Naniksingh Kukreja (33 minutes later)

Blood sample clear; stool clear . No parasites. Appears to be complete gastro intestinal upset. Why? Fish? Is excessive gas post operative symptom? Now Lmost three weeks since surgery!

Thanks for the information

With clear stool reports and distended tummy with pain and discomfort I will surely go for an abdominal ultrasound or CT Scan

With the information provided it does not seem to be a postoperative symptom

In the mean time try a good probiotic twice a day, a PPI with domperidone twice a day
