What Causes Difference In BP Levels In Both The Arms?
Question: sir, I am taking beta cap 80 for the last 1 year for blood pressure. Then my doctor reduced it to beta cap 40 for last 3 months. And advised me to stop for 5 days. after stopping I am not feeling well and again I consult him, when he check the bp it was 130/80 in my right hand and 180/100 in my left hand. now again he advised me to take beta cap 80 and neck to forte for next 10 days. he din't know the reason for different BP range. what can I do now
Brief Answer:
Continue BETACAP 80
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for query.
It is not a good practice to stop blood pressure medication within short time, at least my opinion.
You should keep continuing BP medication regularly and adjust dose on regular intervals.
Now you should monitor on right hand mainly.
Second a minor variation up to 20mm between two arms is acceptable.
Since you have bigger difference it is important to continue measuring both arms as a practice from now. If the difference remains higher then there is a need to rule out vascular n nerve problems, diabetes.

thank u mam, shall I want to consult any specialist like cardio or Neuro in this initial stage it self or continuing this beta cap is enough. more over I am a smoker I use 6 to 7 cigarettes per day.
Brief Answer:
Cardio consult
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If you are a smoker there is high risk for vascular diseases. If there's one in either hand the BP difference in the arms are imminent.
So you better consult cardiologist to rule out vascular problem.
