Brief Answer:
Get done PFT first.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you are mostly having functional lung disease like bronchitis.
It is not affecting lung parenchyma, so chest x ray and CT scan are normal.
Patient with bronchitis tend to develop breathlessness on exertion.
So in my opinion, you are mostly having bronchitis.
And for diagnosis of bronchitis, PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) is must.
PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only.
So please get done PFT first.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Can you send me your spirometry report?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
You had six minute walk test. And 88 Spo2 is low for normal individuals.
It is common in COPD patients to have low Spo2. This is because of COPD.
So you are having low Spo2 despite of non smoker.
And this is the reason for your symptoms.
Most common cause for this is COPD. Other causes are Pulmonary embolism.
I need to see your PFT report and graph for accurate diagnosis.
So can you please send me your spirometry report?
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

I have gone through the PFT report you have attached.
Your PFT report is absolutely normal. It is not suggestive of any disease like asthma or bronchitis.

This is commonly seen with stress and anxiety.
So please let me know
1. Are you having stressful life?
2. Do you have breathlessness on particular exercise?

Thank you for the follow up. To answer your questions,no I do not have a stressfull life.I am retired and only work helping out when I am called. Once every couple of months.I first noticed the symptoms in Dec of 2014 primarily playing tennis.Back then the worst of it was serving, walking up hill or biking up hill even a slow trot was hard.My breathing was so fast I thought I had a heart problem. I was sent to a heart doctor. After a stress test and heart rate monitor for 30 days he said my heart was fine. That left a breathing specialist as the last resort. He was some what stumped by the symptoms and did the tests I mentioned. The symptoms are the same if less sever. They also seem to be cummulative..For example the longer the service game the more labored my breathing is.The rest of the game i am ok unless it is a long point.Riding a bike is still hard.I can do a walk trot routine as long as the trot is not too long. For the last couple months I have developed a cough that actually seems to make me feel better.I also cough up phlegm. The amount varies but it usually a milky white color. I hope this will help figure out what is going on.The doctor I am seeing only said my brochi was not working right but no specifics. Could you please tell me how the brochi work during exercise ?

Thank you for your time XXXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You should get done PFT when symptomatic.

Detailed Answer:

I can understand your concern.

Your case is indeed strange. You have worsening in symptoms with all normal reports of heart and lungs.

Exercise or any exertion cause sympathetic stimulation. And this sympathetic stimulation causes dilatation of bronchi to improve air inhalation. This is a body's mechanism to match increased body need during exercise.

Since you are symptomatic and the reports are normal, I will suggest we repeat the PFT when you are symptomatic. Testing when you have symptoms might show something.

I would like to know if you take any other pills, other than you mentioned?

Regards

I have an appointment on the 28 of this month.I will ask the Dr about a follow up PTF.To answer your question,no I do not have allergies, not to my knowledge any way.No my symptoms are not worsening. If anything they are better. I mentioned the coughing and the phlegm and they seemed to make me feel slightly better. The thing is that they seem to come and go.some times the coughing is heavy and hacking ,other times slight. What I don't know is if my physical activity is causing the coughing or something else.

Yes, you should definitely consult your doctor and discuss about repeat PFT.
If this is also normal then no need to worry for lung related causes.
Then we need to search for heart related diseases for your symptoms.
Do let me know your progress and PFT report.

I am at a loss about the mention of heart disease. The cardiolagist I saw during the middle of last year said my heart was fine.I think I mentioned the treadmill stress test and the 30 day 24/7 heart monitor test showed nothing. I was wearing the monitor even playing tennis where I have the most symptoms. Wouldn't these tests show symptoms of heart disease?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Drkaushal85 (7 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Yes, those tests would definitely show disease if present.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, those tests (stress test, 24 hour monitoring of heart) would definitely show disease if at all present.
Since your 24 hour heart monitor showed nothing while playing tennis, no need to worry for heart diseases.
You should get done repeat PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
If this also comes out normal, then no need to worry for heart and lung related diseases.
Then possibility of psychological breathlessness is more.
So get done fresh PFT ti rule out any lung disease.
Hope I have solved your query. If you are not having further queries, then please close the conversation and rate my answer.
