What Causes Difficulty In Passing Urine?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: For the past couple of days I have been having difficulty urinating. I am 69 years old, diabetic, active 6' T and 190#. This has come on quite rapidly. There is significant pressure and a urge to go but the effort is difficult. I have been in pretty good health most of my life with the exception of the diabetes and have never gone through anything like what I am experiencing now. Unfortunately, I do not have any health insurance so I am searching for a cost effective answer to hopefully resolve this issue. Any assistance would be most helpful. I am still actively employed full time in the marine construction industry XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
investigation is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the first thing that has to be clarified is whether the "difficulty" is caused by an infection or by obstruction. The treatment is different. An ultrasound scan of the urinary tract starting from the kidneys and ending with the prostate and a urinalysis would help a lot to clarify the issue.

In case of a urinary tract infection, antibiotic treatment would be required.

In case of an obstruction, the treatment depends on the obstacle.

I hope you find my answer helpful!
