I read your question and i understand your concern. Difficulty sleeping at night and no problem sleeping at day is more of an imbalanced routine than insomnia. Circadian rhythms ( sleep wake cycles) take time ot adjust to normal one in a few weeks. Triggers of not sleeping at night like internet, TV, cartoons, late night eating, late night activities should be minimized. Avoid screens and other stimulants during bed time. Mobilize, walk more in the day and ignore sleeping in the day even if you are compelled to. Apart from him get his complete psych evaluation, ADHD work up, thyroid work up and anxiety or depression assessment. Keep a sleep diary and try to find insomnia inducing habits and avodi them. Stick to sleep schedules , avoid day time naps, avoid caffeine, cola, beverages, tea , late night meals etc.
