Brief Answer:
usually a viral illness

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The most common reason for an acute/recent onset sorethroat is a viral infection but if the pain is severe and not improving even slightly by day 3, then it may be a bacterial infection requiring antibiotics

The presence of headaches and ear pain are also in keeping with an infection. The fact that both ears are involved makes it unlikely that there are specific ear infections since it is very rare to have ear infections involving both ears at the same time

Cough cold/flu can cause ear pain to occur with the other symptoms

You should consider trying the following: (1) pain medication such as paracetamol, ibuprofen or naproxen

(2)cold foods or fluids would help ease the throat

(3)local meds such as covonia throat spray or chloroseptic spray or gargle would also help, these are over the counter

(4)anti histamine/decongestant combination of medication such as zyrtec d, allegra d, loratidine d or benadryl d.
Part of the ear pain is due to congestion of the airways, the decongestant/antihistamine combination helps with this

If there is no improvement, you may need a course of antibiotics

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
