What Causes Difficulty Walking Using Left Foot?

I have a very aggravating situation with my left foot and that is, in walking, the front of my foot drops forward causing issues of tripping myself. My family doctor said that the problem is caused by a discs in the lumbar section of my spine being so badly degenerated that the nerve signals controlling my foot are being pinched or blocked thus causing the drag. He further stated that in reviewing the x-rays there is very little if anything that can be done including surgery. I am of very good health in all aspects including no blood pressure or cholesterol issues, however I do have one strike against me and that is am a man of 85 years of age. My question is , is there anything out there in the world of medicine that could help me other than wearing a most uncomfortable device strapped to your leg and under your foot as a support.
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated:
Thank you,

Hello XXXXX I would suggest you consult another spine surgeon and an MRI
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXX
I would suggest you consult another spine surgeon and an MRI of spine and electrophysiological study of nerves in leg may be necessary to have a complete re-evaluation of your foot drop. Also I may suggest you to take help of a physical therapist for muscle-nerve stimulation, massage and exercise to maintain tone of muscles and ankle joint.he may suggest a newer devise that may prevent dropping of forefoot by spring mechanism and may be not be so uncomfortable in walk. After re-evaluation, a tendon/muscle transfer in foot by surgery may be allowable if certain group of muscle in foot have sufficient power.Your doctor may know of a foot surgeon in your area. So things may still work out for better solutions
