What Causes Discoloration On Penis?
Not necessarily a STD. Several other causes.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
This is Dr. Sridhar here and I shall be answering your question.
Well, to start with, there are many causes which may be leading to this discoloration on your penis, ranging from nutritional deficiency to STDs.
Whenever you notices something unusual on the penis, it is important to rule out a sexually transmitted infection (though rare).
Skin discoloration does occur in case of nutritional deficiency. It is difficult to say if it can be reversed but it can definitely be stopped by having a proper well balanced diet.
Another common cause is fungal infection of the skin of penis. It is in fact the most common and likely cause. Poor hygiene often leads to fungal infection. It is also often associated with itching. In a case of fungal infection, the infection can be easily treated with the use of potent anti fungal tablets and creams available today. You might also want to maintain good personal hygiene and good diet.
If the spots are mostly on the shaft of the penis and appear as numerous small white or yellow spots bumps under the skin, they may be Fordyce spot. Fordyce spots are simply prominent skin glands that show through due to the relative thinness of the skin on the shaft of the penis. They are completely normal and do not require treatment.
The patches may be due to Sexually Transmitted Disease, like Syphilis, Herpes or Genital warts.
Lastly, if you find some growth as well, it is always better to rule out Penis cancer.
Such discolored patches can be correctly diagnosed only after properly examining it and running some lab tests. So, I'd strongly advice you to visit a Dermatologist and get examined and investigated.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further question, I'd happy to help. If you are satisfied, you may close the discussion and rate the answer.
Wish you good health.
