What Causes Discomfort And Burning Sensation In Rectum After Ejaculation Or Defecation?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: I am a healthy, active 29year old male (6ft, 175lbs). For the past 8-10 months I have had a mild discomfort, almost burning sensation, in my rectum or colon. This occurs when I sit or lay down mostly or after a bowel movement or ejaculation. I have regular and healthy bowel movements, no blood, etc. I have had a hemorrhoid/fissure in the past but none recently? Any idea what may be causing this, especially ongoing for so long?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Symptoms related to hemorrhoids /anal fissure

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concern. .

1. Having burning sensation after bowel movements or ejaculation with a previous history of hemorrhoids and anal fissure, is suggestive for possible ongoing hemorrhoids associated with relapse of the anal fissure.

2. As this has been going on for long time, I advise to run further tests to evaluate the current changes in your anal area:
- sigmoidoscopy or
- anoscopy

3. Sometimes, diarrhea is causing anal fissure too. I want to know if you have had any history of recent diarrhea or loose stool?
Any history of using antibiotics recently? If yes, candida overgrowth is to consider and determined by stool culture.

4. To ease your symptoms, apart using prep H, I advise to :
- take Sitz bathe to ease the discomfort
- keep the anal area well cleaned and dry
- use prep H after bowel movements (bm)
- avoid constipation or too much straining during a bm
- go to toilet each time you have the feeling
- avoid anal sex

Hope it was of help!

Thank you for the information.

I have never had diarrea or loose stool. I have regular bowel movements without strain. I also have not been on any antibiotics.

I went to my family physician 2 months ago regarding this and he examined it - I believe an anascopy in office and said he did not see anything - only some irritation and prescribed the anusol.

It does not seem to be irritated most of the time and only when in certain positions or muscle contraction.

Do u believe this can heal itself over time if it is an internal Hemoroid or fissure continuing a regular healthy diet?

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

You shouldn't worry it will heal within a couple of weeks, with treatment and dietary changes. Please stay calm and relax because stress may cause bowel transit problems (including constipation) that may worsen anal fissure.

Wish you a fast recovery!
