What Causes Dizziness After Taking Magnesium And Potassium Supplements Together?
Question: I accidentally took magnesium with potassium. Normally I just take the magnesium since I am deficient. Stopped taking the supplement, but am continuing to feel a little dizzy. Any suggestions?
Brief Answer:
no harm probably
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
if you just took supplemental potassium only once then no harm is expected. The oral dosage is not that high to increase the potassium levels so much, that danger for your life would be possible. If you'd like to be certain you can check your blood potassium levels.
If you took more than one dose then checking the blood levels of potassium is imperative! In any case before doing anything about your potassium, you should know exactly how high its levels are. Dizziness is not very common in mild hyperkalemia.
I hope you find my comments helpful!

Kind Regards!

Thank you for your response. I took a magnesium/potassium supplement for approx. 1 week before I noticed it contained potassium. What kind of procedures could I expect at the doctors office if my blood contains high levels of potassium?

Brief Answer:
a blood test and/or an ECG
Detailed Answer:
You're welcome!
With a simple blood test, the potassium levels can be accurately measured. Sometimes the doctor may order an electrocardiogram. High potassium levels may change the electrical activity of the heart.
