What Causes Dizziness Upon Waking With Pressure Between Eye And Eyebrows?
Possible ETD. Impedance Audiogram.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. Your history seems to be similar to BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo), but that would still occur on every change in position against gravity (such as lying down or standing up).
2. If this is a one time episode, then an ear drum examination is required.
3. An Impedance Audiometry (Tympanometry) will help check the middle ear pressures and reveal if this is the cause.
4. It is true that allergy and sinusitis can cause Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD). This can alter middle ear pressures causing dizziness and vertigo. However, this would also cause an abnormal Tympanogram (Impedance Audiogram).
5. Upload the Impedance Audiogram (Tympanogram).
6. Sneezing and blowing the nose can cause air pressure changes and mucus being forced into the middle ear, causing vertigo and dizziness.
7. Start steam inhalation. Medication is not necessary for a single episode.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
I think I have a sinus infection, sinusitis. I have pressure on my eyes, forehead, underneath my eyes. And today I woke up with crunchy sounds in my left ear...as if fluid was draining from my nose. I'm not dizzy while standing up, just like I'm in a fog. when I place my head on the pillow and turn over, I feel a bit of dizzyiness, which subsides. I have no headache, no blurred vision, I have an apeptite, normal bowls,no nasal discharge of color, but when I do blow my nose it is clear. I usually get this ever year, but this year seems worse, cause usually never affects my balance when laying down. would you send in a prescription for Augmentin, 875, twice daily for 10 days or what do you think is best. I can pick this up at any CVS in Manhattan, NY. Thank you very much.

Also I have no fever, but sometimes it feels like it burns either in my nose, under it and today, when laying on the pillow, it felt like liquid was draining from my ear to my nose and had a burning sensation under my cheek. I'm 6 feet, about 190. No high blood pressure, in good health. thank you.
Avoid antibiotics at present.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for writing back.
1. It does seem that you have ETD and allergic rhinitis with sinusitis.
2. Since you do not have fever, you do not need antibiotics (Augmentin).
3. Take an OTC anti allergic and anti inflammatory medication. Adequate rest, hydration and steam inhalation should suffice. Get the audiometry tests done.
4. Write back after the tests or if the symptoms worsen.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

I have no health insurance so cannot afford to go to an ENT to have a tympanogram which cost $250 for the specialist and $500 for the test. I just went to a General Practitioner Physician who looked in my ears, saying looks normal. I said, how do account for the dizziness when I move my head. She replied, mucous from the sinuses. There's no mucous when trying to blow it, nothing, but I know it is impacted, cause I can sometimes hear pressure release in my nose. Anyway, the physician gave me Flonase, Medrol Pak, and AMOX. I'm not keen on the Medrol Pak or Flonase, since I read a side effect of Flonase is trouble breathing and white burns inside the nose. I have had trouble with my sinuses since I was gonna be a physician at Northwestern in 2002.
If you ask me, our ways of medicine are still very primative, still a mere guessing game. And really...we dont have better pharmarceuticals. So what if we solve many medicinal enigmas and increase life expectancy...something else will evolve and hence physicians and big pharma will still be in business...actually making even more money--from what I envision--which is ok, but people will be healthier than today. Something to think about. I'm just frustrated right now. XXXX
Take OTC medication and hypertonic saline nasal washes.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for writing back.
1. I understand, that is why I have recommended an OTC medication, rest, hydration and steam inhalation in my previous response.
2. Impedance Audiometry is an objective, simple and accurate test. More accurate than observation of the ear drum and guessing. In XXXXXXX a consultation and the test would cost only $10-15.
3. The pressure release sound are normal. They indicate that the ventilation system of the ear can recover and become normal again.
4. Hypertonic nasal washes are also very simple and effective.
