What Causes Dry Cough And Vomiting After Feeding Food In Infants?

Question: Hello Dr.

My 2nd Baby [Boy] is having DRY cough and because of this somtimes he do ommiting after feed.

His age is 6 Months now and weight around 6 KG

Please suggest the medication to avoid this.

Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Coughing occasionally is normal in infants.
Please let me know more about your second baby
Any fever? Duration of cough? Associated symptoms like cold?
If only cough then most common reasons include
A. Viral infection
B.Allergic cough
C. Reflux
The first two should respond to antihistamines like cetirizine.
I usually prescribe around 2 ml twice daily.
But if cough becomes worse or if any other symptoms develop do consult your doctor.
It is dangerous to give medicines at this age with out consulting in person as signs of chest or ear infection can be picked up only by proper clinical examination.

Hello Dr.
Since Yesterday night he got COLD as well.
And dry cough duration is around 2-3 days.

history:
In Last weeks both babies had COLD, Cough, Loose motions and fever somtimes..
but now from last sunday everything is ok except dry cough.

Try antihistamines like cetrizine like i mentioned before
If viral, it should settle.
But if it doesnt settle, clinical examination is required to identify ear throat or chest infection or allergy.
Reflux seems unlikely because cold is present along with dry cough.
If not settling it is better to consult your nearby pediatrician.
