What Causes Dry Cough While Treating High Blood Pressure?

Question: hi my names XXXXXXX XXXX and I have high blood pressure. I used to be on medication but I stopped using it for no good reason. its been a year. I forget the name of my old prescription. all as I remember is the side effect was a dry cough. and it wasn't a water pill

It is the ACEI class of drug that most commonly causes cough as a side effect - some drugs in the class include Captopril, enalapril, lisinopril etc...

     There are several CLASSES of drugs / There are several DRUGS in each class / Each drug has several proprietary NAMES! / Each drug has a dose range.
     Some of them are – Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB) / Beta- Blocker / ANGIOTENSIN CONVERTING ENZYME INHIBITOR (ACEI) / Diuretic (Water pill) / Angiotensin Receptor Blocker (ARB)/ Direct Renin Inhibitor
     And many receive drugs in different permutation / combination

There is no sure way to bring it down to normal levels by non-pharmologial approach.
Some measures that may help are–
Reduce salt. That is the best known measure to reduce the pressure.
Avoid highly salted items like pickles, chips, preserved products and junk food
Avoid adding salt on dining table...
Reduce salt in cooking [There is small amount in most foods]
Restrict salt to the level of condiment!

Test your Lipids (Cholesterol) / kidney function / Electrolytes (Potassium in particular)

Relax.
Relaxation exercises, bio feedback technics and yoga may help
