default
Posted on Sat, 13 Dec 2014
Question: I almost always have a dull ache in my right lower hamstring muscle. Sometimes minor and sometimes fairly annoying. I am 64 and work out regularly (have down that for years). I am overweight 6'1' 275# but have lost 60#'s over the last 4 years. What is the cause?

Brief Answer:
I think it is arthritis...

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for posting.

I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns.

Based on what you refer I think it is leg arthritis. Another possibility is torsion.
To confirm the diagnosis some examinations are necessary:
1. Leg X-ray.
2. Fibrinogen test.
3. Complete blood count.
4. Urine test.

The results will determine the needed treatment. If it is arthritis you will need non steroidal anti inflammatory medications.

You should consult your orthopedist to discuss about the diagnosis and treatment.

Ask me for anything unclear.

Wish you good health.
Dr. Behar.
