What Causes Ear Ache And Blisters At The Back Of The Throat?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: Hi, I went to the ER last night due to sore throat and blisters on the back of my throat. They tested for strep but it came back negative, told me the blisters were probably due to a viral infection and sent me on my way with directions to gargle, etc. Today I have the feeling that there is something in my throat and I can actually feel it with my finger. I also have ear pain on that side. Non smoking, healthy 51 year old female. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

Brief Answer:
Need to have a detailed ENT specialist and use oral ointments

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic!

First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through. Based on the history you have shared, it seems as if this feeling in the throat can be due to some blister which is irritating to you again, or may be compressing on or around the eustachian tube opening which is a tube which connects the ears with throat and keeps equal air pressure balance on both sides of ear drum from outside and inside. That compression may have caused the pain in the relevant ear. In any case , you need a detailed evaluation and workup by an ENT specialist to look deeper into the throat. If any signs of super added bacterial infection is seen, it may need proper antibiotics course but for pain and discomfort alongwith mouth washes, topical anesthetic or analgesic creams may be needed for symptomatic relief. Until then, you can continue using the measures which have been suggested by ER during your last visit. Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
