Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

You may have a bacterial infection in your middle ear (otitis media). Other possibilities are that there is fluid behind your ear drum such as from allergies or a recent ear infection, or that you have a bacterial infection of the ear canal.

But, given that you have a fever, most likely it is a middle ear infection. And given that you have diabetes, an antibiotic is likely needed if that is the case. Because the body may not be able to fight infection as well as if you did not have diabetes.

So, I recommend that you go in to be seen by a doctor. If you go in to an urgent care clinic, request to be seen by a doctor and not by a PA or NP (physician's assistant, nurse practitioner). In addition to having your ears and throat looked at, you should have your blood sugar checked, because the stress of a fever can raise blood sugar.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
