Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: I have been dealing with sinus issues for the last 2wks. Went to see my my primary she she diagnosed the issue as erval allergic rhinitis with otalgia, however as of today my situation has changed, now my right ear hurts when I swallow and this all started at 9:30am today. The feeling sometime comes down my neck, back of throat, the right side of my chin/cheek area feels full, stuffed....I have scheduled an appoint with a ENT but it is not until the 21.......About 2 years ago I had similar but without the ear pain when swallowing. ENT prescribed Flonase and a antibiotic that starts with a B as it has anti inflammatory properties.
I started taking Flonase today

Detailed Answer:
Hello
My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. ear canal and throat have communication with each other via eustachian (auditory) tube. so if there is infection of one area then it may spread to other area as well. as your problem has been for a longer time so if i were your treating doctor then i would have advised following things:
- amoxicilin/clavulonic acid 625mg thrice a day for 5 days. its a prescription med so you need from your local dr.
- cetirizine one at night for 3 days
- acetaminophen thrice a day for 3 days
- take hot water in a cup, add 1 TSF salt in it and perform mouth wash(gargles) with it 2-3 times a day for 3 days. it will give soothing effect
- take adequate rest

AVOID:
spicy food
drinks
oily food
smoke
dust

hopefully you will see improvement in 2-3 days but if condition remains same or aggravates then you need to visit hospital for further workup.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
