What Causes Edema In Scrotal Region?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Mar 2015
Question: I have an belly button hernia, for several years, and wonder if this can be related to another more bothersome problem I have now. My testicles and entire scrotal region has severe edema problems. The testicles have been a problem for almost 4 years and have been as big as a football for the past 3 years and for the past 10months have grown to the size of a regulation size basket-ball. This is not a joke, but is a serious issue for me, as it causes great deal of anxiety, discomfort, insecurity problems, my moral, my self esteem, and even affects my social life as I am a widow for the past 9 years. There was a black man in California who was in the news media about 2-3 years ago with a similar problem and had the testicles surgically repaired. I have had CT scans done, and have seen many urologists specialists who are baffled, an internal medicine specialists who cannot explain it, a few surgeons who have said lose weight. I was 327lbs. Now, I am down to 297 lbs, but the testicle size has not gotten smaller. I fail to see this as a weight problem, as I have many friends that are 360 and 397 pounds, one is diabetic, I am not diabetic. In fact now it is as thought the testicles may have ruptured as they are constantly seeping and I have to change depends shorts 4-5 times a day as they are water logged. Im dont think seepage is water, but may be a body fluid, it has a slight odor and is not a clear color, but seems to be look like a plasma or the fluid that is appears on the surface of a serious burn on an arm or hand. If I dont wear a pad and just stand in the washroom, as puddle forms on the floor beneath me within seconds from the constant dripping of fuids.. I have been trying to see a plastic surgeon to see what he can do surgically, but I feel that if the hernia around the belly button is repaired, the problem may stop, but the testilces would have be surgically drained and repaired. Along withthe testicles, the entier penis is deformed from the severe edema and the entire scrotum is all swollen. When I l first get up in the morning, the scrotum appears a bit smaller but when I stand up or sit up, inminutes the fluid collects inthe lower part of hte scrotum. About 4-5 years ago I was having a lymphedema or cellutis in both lower legs and it became imflammed to the point that my legs were red and swollen and very much with edema, and to clear up the inflammation I was on IV therapy for 5 consecutive years, each time the treatment period was longer and longer. The last few times, I was into ER for IV therapy using Vancomyacin, for 3 months @ twice as day, then for 6 months 2-3 times as day, then it was 8 months @ 3 times per day, to the point I had to have a PIC line installed. It was at the start of the 8month IV therapy that my testicles had grown, as I was having great difficulty sitting inthe ER to receive the IV. This is affeceting my social life, my personal life, my self esteem, as well as personal activity in daily chores such a shopping for groceries, climbing a ladder to change light bulbs, and I get extremely breathless in minutes of attemtpting any task or walking as I feelthis football probably weighs about 20 ibs. That is lots of weight to carry around, and I have Drs tell me to lose weight and try walking or swimming. I could never go into a public pool and cannot waalk any distance. It is with great difficulty that I can go to the bathroom for a bowel movement and |i have to sit ont he edge of the toilet seat and use a plastic cup to urinate in, due to the swelling in the penis. Personal hygene is a major task. All I can wear is a 3xl jogging pants, as nothing else will accomodate the testicles. The extra weight causes severe lower back pain and ankle pain. My family doctor is Dr XXXXXXX Fitzpatrick in Chilliwack at 604 793-6861. His office is not open on Wednesdays. The Chilliwack General Hospital has recently done the ultra sound on the scrotal region and the radiologist and the technician were speechless with this problem. If you wish to see the results, I can sign the authorization forms, as soon as you advise me or I can go into my Drs office and request that they forward you results of the scan. The testicles have been weeping on the right hand side for 3 dasys now which causes me great concern for infection. I feel I need medical attention and a surgical repair ASAP, as if the testicles actually do rupture, then what. Very Drs that I have seen have ever seen this problem. One Dr that I had seen asked me if I had been out of the country, as his thoughts were of elephantitis, but I have not. Checking on line, the closet resemblance would be the elephantitis problem. I am a Canadian Military Veteran, living on a very very limited income, so I am at your mercy for assitance, please. I will be 65 years of age on the 15 XXXXXXX 2015, and born in 1950.

Brief Answer:
Post a clear picture and reports of Ultrasonography - Go for MRI

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history. Read the whole history and understood the problems.

Yet there are few questions that their answers will help me.
Where exactly is the leakage from ?
Can you attach the clear pictures of the condition you have ? Attach to the this query as YYYY@YYYY for Dr T Chandrakant. Also attach the reports of previous tests and Ultrasonography if you have.

I would advise you to have an MRI of the whole affected area so that the exact problem can be studied so that it can be decided what sort of a Surgery can help you.

Scrotal condition may not be related to the umbilical (belly button) hernia.
All this seems to be due to Elephantiasis - a condition where the lymphatics get blocked so that the edema becomes permanent and can be cured by surgery alone.

I hope you have already received the 3 week course of Hetrazan / Banocide forte (Diethylcarbamazine) 100 mg three times a day for 3 weeks.

Please provide me pictures and further information so that I can help you more.
Note: For further inquiries on surgery procedure and its risks or complications book an appointment now
