default
Posted on Thu, 17 Mar 2016
Question: I had my B12 level tested on January 16 - I take B12 injections, once a month. When I went to the Doctor for my check up it was 1 week earlier then I usually have my injection. She gave me my injection then the nurse took my blood aboutv10 minutes later - the results were greater then 2000 and the doctor said I should wait until XXXXXXX to see if I need these injections. I strongly disagree.

Brief Answer:
it depends

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

if you had symptoms or an impaired complete blood count then treatment should continue at least until the symptoms and lab disorders are corrected regardless of the measurement results. The cause may be important in decisions. Reversible causes do not require continuation of the treatment once the cause has been treated.

Many cases involve a problematic absorption of vitamin B12, so continued treatment is the rule. The dosage can be a subject of debate. Most patients require injections every 1-2 months.

So in conclusion, if you're having symptoms or lab disorders caused by vitamin B12 insufficiency then continuing treatment would be a wise decision.
