What Causes Elevated BP Levels While On Midodrine?
Question: my 86 year old wife has been taking 2.5 mg midodrine 3x daily to treat hydrostatic hypotension. She has been on it for about 2 weeks. I am now seeing a rise in BP laying down, sitting, or standing around 153 to 159 over 82 to 65. I believe we have over corrected and am inclined to either stop or reduce the midodrine. Would it be wise to do so?
Brief Answer:
Reducing the dose probably will help
Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir
After going through the medical history provided by you of your wife I would like to tell you that yes you are right and probably it's been getting over corrected.
So yes we can give it a try by reducing the frequency of the medicine to twice daily instead of thrice. Keeping monitoring her Bp for few days after reducing the medicine. Hopefully the Bp will come within normal range.
I hope this information will guide you properly
Kind Regards

Thank you for your helpful response. A second question pertains to her new medication which is eliquis 2.5 mg which is to be taken twice daily to prevent stroke. She does have a kidney problem resulting from a heart attack and acute kidney failure 2 years ago. The kidneys have largely recovered to a creatine level of 1.62 where it has been stable over the past year or so. My main concern is will the new medication cause new damage to the kidneys and/or what to do to prevent damage. I look forward to your response.
Brief Answer
No significant effect on kidneys
