What Causes Elevated SGPT Levels While Suffering From Dengue Fever?
I am a female of age 26. I was diagnosed with Dengue last week. As per my doctor, I am in the recovery phase now. My platelet count is now 203 (which was down to 140 last week). But I have got a new problem now. Today I have done my SGPT test and the value has been high (141). I would like to know is it due to the Dengue fever? Fatty liver is in my family history. I do not smoke and drink alcohol very occasionally (once in 4-5 months). What could be the possible causes and what medicine do I need to take now? Please advice.
It appears to be due to Dengue fever
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Hi
Good evening.
I have gone though your history and glad to know that you are recovering from the dengue infection.
Liver enzymes like SGPT are elevated in patients suffering from Dengue fever, this appears to be due to inflammation caused by the virus and are correlated with other markers of disease activity.
There is nothing to worry about it, the raised enzymes will return to their normal levels over a period of time during complete recovery.
Meanwhile
1. Avoid taking alcohol or alcohol containing beverages
2. Avoid smoking
3. Avoid taking fatty meals or fast and junk foods
4. Eat home cooked foods, increase the intake of fruits and vegetables
5. Take Vitamin E containing supplements which are very useful in restoring the normal levels of the the liver enzymes.
6. Get an abdominal ultrasound done to check the status of liver function since you have a strong family history of fatty liver
7. Also get the lipid profile (Cholesterol and Triglycerides levels) done.
Hope the suggestions given above could be useful.
Best regards
