What Causes Elevated Blood Glucose Level After Drinking Lucozade?
Question: I have just had results from a blood test, it came back with a blood glucose of 7.2, this was taken at 08.10 in the morning, I had not eaten since the night before but had drank about 100ml of Lucozade at about 07.30, could this have caused such a high reading? I have always drunk sugary drinks and it has never affected previous glucose results.
Brief Answer:
Yes
Detailed Answer:
Drinking lucozade will definitely elevate your blood glucose reading an hour or two later.
It has carbohydrates in it and that is why your reading of 7.2 cannot be considered a true fasting value.
A proper fasting glucose sample is required if you want to know whether or your blood glucose levels are in the normal range during fasting state.
I understand what you are saying that in the past it has not affected it but testing standards universally require overnight fasting of 8 to 14 hours before a glucose reading can be interpreted correctly. Fasting implies no intake other than water
