What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Post Chemotherapy For Kidney Cancer?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Apr 2017
Question: I'm in chemotherapy for kidney cancer that is isolated to the kidney. I'm on blood pressure medicines before the chemo and have a pace maker due to afib. My blood pressure was in a normal range before treatments began. Now it's elevated up to 150/90 yet my oncologist doesn't seem alarmed. I am. Is the Chemo causing this? I also have diabetes 2. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Exact cause needs investigation

Detailed Answer:
A recent rise in blood pressure may indicate that your kidney function has gone down

you are using lot of liquid products which is causing swelling in the legs . there could be some complications of the Kidney cancer itself like thrombosis in the vasculature. it can be also because of the medications used for treatment .

In any case we should monitor the kidney function and the urine routine examination. if your blood pressure is persistently high, greater than 140 by 90, you can start blood pressure medicines like amlodipine or cilnidipine be taken under guidance of your treating doctor overall your blood pressure is not in dangerous limits but you should be vigilant

best wishes
