Question: Hi! My HCG was 11000 at 5+1 and 18000 at 5+3 (no doubt about the dates) and i am terrified about this might indicate down syndrome. I am now at 8+0 and baby with heartbeen has been seen, but still the high HCG terrifies me.

Brief Answer:
This is normal!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

HCG are this high in the early phase of the pregnancy. This is normal and in line with the desired numbers. You would be screened down’s syndrome later using a combination of tests (Quad screen). The quad screen measures your blood level of four pregnancy-associated substances: alpha fetoprotein, estriol, HCG and inhibit A.

For now, HCG levels alone are not in favor of down’s syndrome and alone are not sufficient. When this test would be done, then you will have more definitive information on this.

wish you well and do keep me posted.
