Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your actual therapy doesn't seem to be related to your high levels of potassium.

Metoprolol can lead to an increase in the levels of potassium in 1-3 % of the cases, but the increase would not be very noticeable.

Coming to this point, I would recommend performing some tests to investigate for other possible cause of high plasma levels of potassium such as : kidney disorders, adrenal gland dysfunction, possible diabetes, etc. .

So it is necessary to perform these lab blood tests :

-complete blood count
-kidney and liver function tests
-fasting glucose and HbA1C
-cortisol and aldosterone plasma levels.

What are your actual plasma levels of potassium?

In case of very high levels of potassium kayexalate (sodum polystirene sulfonate) would seem to be the best treatment choice. Anyway this drug should be given under doctor prescription and monitoring.

I recommend you to discuss with your doctor on the above mentioned issues.

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask any other questions whenever you need.

Best regards!
