What Causes Enlarged Liver After Treating Food Poisoning And Jaundice?
Question: Hi Doc,
My history is that I was doing professional bodybuilding for a couple of years and took some mild steroids like Neurabol (Stanazolol 2mg). It was all smooth until 5 months back when I got severe food poisoning and jaundice. My SGOT and PT levels were 9000 and 7000 and bilurubin went upto 12.
I passed through hospitalization and was on hepamerz and udiliv for 3 months and all and then everything came back to normal. The last normal test was Feb 15.
My work is quite stressful and recently I was travelling international and could not sleep enough. I was feeling a little discomfort after coming back to XXXXXXX and got my tests done again today. OT PTare perfect but bilurubin is a little raised. 1.7 so not that much. The thing for worry is that liver continues to be enlarged. 16.3. It is around the same size when the disease was detected. I am starting udiliv 150 again as per doc's advise. Overall, no loss of appetite, all well. just this enlargement. should I go for biopsy or you think it has just been 5 months since I got through this severe phase and I should wait for a bit and continue on fat free diet. Attaching report for today.

Hi Doc, Attached is the report. This ultrasound is from yesterday. To add to my question, the only thing bothering me has been a little pin like pain which happens 2-3 times a day around the liver area (right side of abdomen little under ribcage) but not more than 2 minutes. Remember that I had a hectic schedule and was only able to sleep 2-3 hours for almost 20 days. Now I am sleeping properly again.
No, after hospitalization I have not touched alcohol and steroids again in 5 months and don't plan to do that in a long time. I am done with it.

Brief Answer:
Repeat USG scan after 6 months
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The liver is only mildly enlarged and the echo texture does not indicate anything serious.
The liver function is within normal limits and your appetite is also good.
So there is no need to worry.
You just repeat the USG scan after 6 months.

Dr.R.K.
