What Causes Erectile Dysfunction While On Omeprazole?
Question: I am experiencing erectile difficultly with the use of omeprazole for acid reflux. Any suggestions?
Brief Answer:
There is no such side effect
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
omeprazole is not supposed to cause such problems (there are no such reports) although I could not exclude this possibility, because even old and tested drugs may cause rare side-effects that have never been reported.
You could try an alternative proton-pump inhibitor like pantoprazole for example or a less-potent drug (H2-inhibitor) ranitidine. If the problem persists then you should discuss about other potential causes with your urologist.
Kind Regards!

Why am unable to achieve an erection when I take the medication?
Brief Answer:
I couldn't answer that!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
as I've implied in my previous answer, omeprazole is not supposed to cause such problems, so I couldn't answer this question. You can try to stop it for a while or substitute it with another drug as I've suggested.
Before attributing the cause of your difficulty to the drug it would be good if your doctor could exclude various cause of erectile dysfunction. I'll mention some of them: cardiovascular problems, thyroid dysfunction, male hormone problems, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal injury, stroke, diabetes, etc
Kind Regards!

It only happens when I take this medication. I just started taking the medication on may 18.
Brief Answer:
I can't exclude the drug as the cause but give a try to my suggestion
Detailed Answer:
I understand your concern but since this is very unusual, I would advise you to follow my suggestion regarding substituting one drug for another or stopping it for a few days until you see (or don't see) any difference in your functionality, so that you could back your argument up.
