What Causes Excessive Bright Red Vaginal Bleeding During Early Pregnancy?
Question: Hi.... back in April I think I had an early miscarriage. I was a week late for my period, had a positive pregnancy test (very faint line), then a few days later I started bleeding bright red fresh blood, very heavy. My periods are usually light and short. The next month no period. Two months after the presumed miscarriage I got my period, and it was, again, bright fresh blood. And for the past 7 months my periods are fresh blood - absolutely nothing to it besides fresh blood. No substance to it at all. What could be causing this? My doctor just brushed it off, but this is weird for me and I feel like I need a second opinion.
Thank you in advance!
Thank you in advance!
Brief Answer:
Don't worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.
I have read your question and there is nothing to worry because it is a normal process.
When menstrual blood is bright red,it means that the blood is fresh.
In other words,it was recently shed and then released from the body and there are no blood clots that seems to be substances as you mention.
Hence be calm.
If you have any further question please feel free.
Regards

Okay. But when you have your period, arent you shedding the lining of your uterus? Usually my period is thick and gooe, like blood mixed with discharge. Starts out red and gets gradually darker. But ever since the presumed miscarriage, it is thin like blood when i cut my finger. And it stays like this all the way through. It doesnt get darker. Ive also noticed a bit more discomfort during my periods - some low back pain and mild cramps. My periods used to be a breeze with only slight cramps the day before it starts.
When you said it is a normal process, did you mean a normal process after a miscarriage? Or a normal process of menstruation? Do periods get weird after a miscarriage?
My husband and i want to start trying for our second child next month (we have a 20 month old).. so i want to make sure all is okay.
One last thing - my mother recently tested positive for the brca 2 gene. So there is a chance i may have this gene also. Which makes me all the more worried!y

Don't worry because everything is normal

Hi dear and thanks for following up.
Don't worry because everything seems normal.
If you cycle is regular and it last 3-5 days there is nothing to worry.
I said normal process of menstruation, not a normal process after miscarriage .
You can try to conceive if your cycle is regular and start taking Folic acid .
Since your mother is positive for BRCA 2 gene you should discuss with your General Practitioner
They may refer you to a local genetics service for an NHS genetic test, which will tell you if you have inherited one of the cancer risk genes.
This type of testing is known as predictive genetic testing.
It's "predictive" because a positive result means you have a greatly increased risk of developing cancer.
It doesn't mean you have cancer or are definitely going to develop it.
If you have any further question please feel free.

I am definiely going to get the genetic testing done soon.
My cycle is usually 3-4 days long, but now it is 7 days long. And after it is done, i get a few days of abdominal cramps and brown discharge. I've Never had this before. It is 3 days post-period now, and I have brown discharge and lower back pain that is radiating down my right thigh. The last few times ive taken a bath, i leaked a ton of bath water from my vagina for hours afterward. My concern now is maybe pelvic inflammatory disease... could bath water bring bacteria into my uterus? I really feel like something is wrong with me... are there any tests i should suggest to my doctor?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
You haven't have chances for PID
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.
Please don't worry because your cycle is very normal but have changed form 3 days to 7 days ,and it is within normal range.
You haven't have chances for PID(pelvic infalammatory disease ) because if you would have this, you would have continues pain with excess and odor vaginal discharge and not only menstrual pain as you've mentioned.
But if you want peace of mind and while you will try to conceive you can go to do vaginal swab for commensal bacteria and STI.
In my opinion if you cycle is regular with small cramps during periods and you have done only a miscarriage , there is nothing to worry.
Be calm, eat healthy and try to conceive.
Best regards
