What Causes Excessive Crying In A Child?
Question: Hi Sir,
One question , last night my baby dint slept even for a single min in bed. She was sleeping comfortably in mother's Lap. Whenever we were trying to laying down her bed, she is just crying . Also temp. was under control , Still she was just crying.
Could you please let me know what should we do in this regard.

Hi....there could be many reasons for a baby to be comfortable only in mother's lap while recovering from an illness.
1. The baby might be needing that emotional attachment and bonding with the mother which is quite natural and expected.
2. Even though there is no fever, as the baby is going through a viral illness there might be some cold still lingering. This cold can cause the Eustachian tubes to get blocked. The Eustachian tubes are the anatomical tubes connecting the pharynx with the middle ear. When these get blocked the air in the middle ear gets absorbed in due course and cause mild discomfort. This will settle by instilling saline nasal drops in the nose, 1 drop in each nostril 6th hourly. This might get relieved spontaneously also.
3. The other possibility is that in recovering viral illness there could be body pains which the baby might not be able to express and wants to be with the mother only.
Nothing to worry about all this. She will be getting better in another 24-48 hours.
