What Causes Excessive Protein In Urine?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Feb 2017
Question: I am diabetic and have hypertension. I am female, 68 years old and weigh 200 lbs. and am 5'7. I also have Lupus SLE but have not had a bad flare in the last 8 years. My protein in my urine is 426 and there is a moderate amount of blood. I don't know how much, that was the nurses' words. I have a history of kidney stones but no kidney pain at this time. My doctor is thinking about sending me to a nephrologist. What would they be looking for?

Brief Answer:
Can you upload this report to me?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

High protein in urine raises the concern of a possible leaky kidney called nephrotic syndrome. However, it is very important to specifically identify the components and see the entire report to make some meaningful and personalized calls. Also, blood in urine could come form a leaky kidney and not necessarily a kidney stone.

In all, more elements are needed to make meaningful and helpful calls. I suggest that you upload your report for interpretation and more insights. The nephrologist would be particularly concerned with a disease of the kidneys in which proteins pass through easily that normal.

I hope this helps. I hope to hear from you. I wish you well. Follow up with me for more information and clarifications if need be.
