What Causes Excessive Thirst And Shortness Of Breath While On Furosemide?
Question: What causes excessive thirst and shortness of breath while on Furosemide?
Brief Answer:
Thirst because of Furosemide
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
The single most annoying side effect of Furosemide is thirst, because there will be depletion of intravascular volume ( fluid within the veins and artries) the thirst centre is triggered and patients get very thirsty.
Here are your options
1. Drink sips of plain water. I usually tell my patients to dip sterile cotton into water and squeeze into your mouth
2. Chew on chewing gum or put a long lasting candy in your mouth
3. Make sure your sugars are under control, if you are not a diabetic then please get your sugars tested. High sugar can increase thirst
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
