What Causes Extra Facial Hair And Acne When Having Hormonal Problems?
Reducing even 5-10% weight can improve your symptoms
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
I read your notes. From your notes I understand that you have polycycstic ovary disease (PCOD).
About 1 in 10 women have PCOS. The exact cause for its occurrence is not completely known. These women have high levels of luteinizing hormone ( pituitary hormone) and male hormones. They also often have insulin resistance. This is the reason for the symptoms you are experiencing.
Please remember that obesity is not the result of PCOD. BUT OBESITY BY INCREASING INSULIN RESISTANCE WORSENS THE SYMPTOMS OF PCOD. What is your BMI? If you are obese YOU MUST REDUCE WEIGHT. Join gym. Consult dietician.
The good news is that reducing even 5-10% weight can improve your symptoms and regularize your periods. So please take this advice seriously.
Birth control pills are good. They regularize your periods and also help in reducing excessive hair growth to some extent.
There are several other medicines available to reduce facial hair growth. One such medicine is Cyproterone acetate. It comes in combination with estrogen and needs to be used like a birth control pill. Its effect on hair growth is seen after six months of use.
If you do not like these pills, you can discuss with your doctor and use Glucophage tablets for six months to try to regularize your periods. You may need progesterone along with it. Glucophage also helps to reduce weight to some extent.
To treat excessive hair growth you can have waxing or laser treatment.
Whatever treatment options you use, it should be in addition to diet and exercise.
I hope I have answered your concerns. If you have any further queries, do contact me through Healthcare Magic
