From fading in & out, suppose you means, blockade which comes and goes.
Eustachian tube dysfunction is the most common reason for such symptoms. The cause can be a focus of infection in the nose, sinuses or throat region.
Other reasons can be some anatomical blockade may be by mucosal or lymphoid tissue hypertrophy or bony or cartilage deviation.
Please get an ENT examination done to rule out any of the above stated things.
Otherwise use of mucolytics with nasal decongestants will help you to get your symptoms relieved.
Chewing gum and valsalva maneuver will also help.
