What Could Sharp Pain In Legs While Defecating Indicate?
Hi. I have a sharp pain that radiates posteriorly down my right leg when I defecate (specifically when I perform the Valsalva movement). The pain arose today and I have never had this type of pain before. I do not currently have a sore back nor a history of overuse/intensive exercise. Help!
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Sharp pain that radiates from the back through back of right leg during defecation or Valsalva maneuver indicate that you have a slipped disc syndrome wherein the prolapsed disc in the lower spinal level is causing the compression on the nerve that causes the radiating pain. Although you do not do intensive exercises, or overuse it does not mean that you can not have slipped disc. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Get an MRI of the lower spine asap. Consult a Neurosurgeon. Get operated if indicated. Otherwise go for physiotherapy and other things to get okay. Take laxatives to have smooth motions and avoid any activity that can put strain on the back and abdomen.
