What Causes Fatigue After Missing Few Doses Of Methylprednisolone For Bronchitis?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: I recently finished a 21-day pack of methylprednisolone for bronchitis. I was traveling and skipped a few of the latter doses because I misplaced the pack. I took the doses as soon as I found it. I'm having severe fatigue after finishing the pack. Could this be a withdrawal symptom? If so, how long will it last?

Brief Answer:
taper slowly

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I am Dr Mittal. I have read your query. I think I would be able to help you.

The steroids are usually kind if addictive cause they alter your hormonal balance. Usually short courses are given for some conditions and usually the patients are ok. But as in your case, sometimes even short courses can cause problems.

I think I would have suggested a gradual tapering of the steroids rather than stopping them suddenly. I choose to reduce the dose over 2-3 weeks. Depending on the dose of steroids.

Taking vitamin d and calcium supplements will also help.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
