What Causes Fatigue, Headaches, Abdominal Cramps, Nausea, Fever, Chills And Hot Flashes?

Question: Hi, I've had what seem like stomach flu symptoms for 4 days now, including; muscle fatigue and weakness, headaches, stomach cramping, nausea (no vomiting, no diarrhea), fever with alternating chills and then skin flushed hot and sweating. I have been able to eat and drink plenty of water, still have decent urine output. I am post op ankle surgery almost 5 weeks now. the incision is intact, no drainage, and no redness. however around the perioperative site there is some mild redness that was new 7 days ago after my skin came in contact with my walking boot for a few hours. I'm just concerned it might be related to my surgery and I haven't been able to go see my surgeon for a follow-up, next appointment is Thursday.

Brief Answer:
Does not seem to be related to surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

The redness around the perioperative site may be due to friction allergy to the walking boot.
Usually this is not related to the surgery as the wound is closed, healed and there is no drainage from it.

Taking anti-inflammatory and anti allergic tablets for 3 days will help.
Avoid using walking boots for another 15 days.

If this does not help, then you can consult your doctor coming thursday and rule out any underlying infection.

I could have been in a better position to guide you if you could have posted a recent photograph of the perioperative redness.
Try uploading it here if possible.

The stomach flu symptoms may be due to post-operative antibiotic induced gastritis and should go away by drinking plenty of fluids and fruit juices. Pre/probiotics with antacids will help.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.

Brief Answer:
Not an infection

Detailed Answer:
I have seen the attached photograph.

If you have no pain and fever, then you can be sure that this is not related to the surgery for sure. Its just a allergic rash to walking boots.

You can take the medicines that i have mentioned earlier and give me a follow up after 3 days.

Thank you.
Take care.
