What Causes Fatigue, Vomiting, Cough, Headache And Chills?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: I've had this ongoing battle with the remnants of a cold and for the past week i've had a nervous stomach. Past two days i've had episodes at night where I would get chills and vomit and after vomiting my body begins to feel well again. I haven't slept well at all but I feel extremely fatigued. Also with the nervous stomach i've noticed some fresh blood while wiping ,I've always had issues with hemorroids but they've been under control and after the past few days the bleeding has been more than other ocassions and after the bowel movement come the chills then the vomitting. I have a Dr's appointment next week but would like to know if I should not wait and just go to an ER. I'm very worried because i've had an onset of symptoms in a short period of time that im not used too. To break it down

symptoms are

-Fatigue
-Vomitting
-Chills
-Nervous stomach
-Cough
-Feeling cold and warm
-Headache

Brief Answer:
Please provide more information and consider these guidelines

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have gone through your question very diligently and I really appreciate your concern.

At the outset I would like some further information for better assessment of the condition

Are you having fever, pain in abdomen or itching sensation/ pain in perianal region?
Since how long you have hemorrhoids
Have you seen any doctor for hemorrhoids?
Any relevant medical history like diabetes or liver disease?
Have you recorded temperature during an episode of fever?

Fever with chills in the night with vomiting might be related to malaria, dengue or liver infection so I would advise you laboratory tests like blood smear for malaria, testing for dengue, complete blood count, and liver function test.
You may take acetaminophen group of drugs for fever

Since you have appointment with your doctor next week so I would advise you to take some over the counter available medicines with dietary modifications to get some relief:-
1. You should take anti acidity medicines like pantoprazole or ranitidine group of drugs with antacids for 2 to 3 days
2. Have lots of fresh fruit and steamed vegetables
3. Avoid constipation and straining at stool
4. You should take multivitamin and minerals like iron and calcium supplements
5. About fatty fried spicy and junk food
6. Bed rest is advisable until you feel better
7. For headache over the counter analgesics like Ibuprofen will help.

Hope this helps you
Please write back to me with these details so that I will be able to tell you more accurately.
Best wishes

Hello Dr,

It was around 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with hemorroids maybe even before that by a proctologist. Symptoms have been consistent when it comes to bleeding lately a lttle more. In terms of pain or itching around the anus it has also been consistent, with no major abdominal cramping again im used to having all these sometimes good sometimes very bad.

When I had my episode my fever spiked to 39.7 C and after vomitting went down by itself, also after that I drank alot of liquids high in electrolytes and since then no sign at all of a fever , been constantly monitoring it.

Regarding my family there are no instances of liver disease but there are a few that have type 2 diabetes. Never been diagnosed with anything in the past and rarely get sick. Now I just worry to much about.

please feel free to ask any questions.

Sincerely,

Hello XXXX.
Welcome again and thanks for the details
Please follow these guidelines
Avoid constipation by taking laxatives or stool softeners like liquid paraffin or lactulose.
You should take lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and dietary fiber supplements which will increase roughage in the intestine.
You can apply lignocaine ointment for itching and pain in perianal region.
Sitz bath twice daily will definitely help you.

In my opinion you should consult a general surgeon or proctologist for per rectal examination or proctoscopy and if need be a surgery to remove hemorrhoids.

Hope this answers your question
Best wishes

Brief Answer:
Infection suspected.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
welcome again
Fever with chills, cough and vomiting might be related to infection like lung infection, liver infection or intestinal or urine infection.
Another possibility is allergic reaction or viral infection of the respiratory tract, which itself is a self limiting illness and subsides on its own.

I would advise you to go for investigations I have suggested you in my previous reply.

Hope this answers your question
Best wishes
