Brief Answer:
Probably a result from the meds you have been on.

Detailed Answer:
I am sorry you are having this.

Given the medications that you were on, the main two possibilities are:

1. Reflux of acid into the back of your throat and tongue. The corticosteroids (prednisone or prednisolone) can cause stomach irritation. Reflux of acid can make your tongue red and burn and irritate the throat as well.

2. Yeast overgrowth in the mouth and throat. Usually you will see white patches, although you won't be able to see what is going on in your throat. Corticosteroids can suppress the immune system and allow overgrowth, and antibiotics can upset the normal flora. So both can cause a yeast (candida) over growth.

So what to do:
If you see any white patches anywhere, go to your doctor or call your doctor who will prescribe an anticandida medicine such as Nystatin, which you swish in your mouth and swallow.

If you think it might be acid, such as having a sour or bitter taste at times, and sensation of burning in mouth, then consider getting over the counter Zantac 150 mg and taking it 2x/day for 2-4 weeks. You should see some improvement in the symptoms by approx. 2 weeks.

If you can't tell which it is, you might want to go to your doctor to have them take a look.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
