Question: Hello Doctor,

My daughter( 2 years 4 months old- 15kg weight)t is suffering from high fever since last 2 days. Fever was recorded as 99.9 then raised till 102.1 degrees on Saturday afternoon. When she was 9 months old we had an occurance of seizures and since then I have been taking care of the medication whenever fever comes in. Hence this time as well, I gave her crocin DS suspension 6 ml or Meftal at 6 hour interval. I gave Frisium tablet as well half twice a day for 3 days. Usually the fever reduces in 3 days. Her forehead is still warm and her food intake has reduced. She is active but irritated. Her eyes have become small and an hour ago again the fever shooted up to 99.9 degrees. I have given Crocin 5 ml now, but concerned. Please let me know what do we do in such case. Does that mean that she has some other infection? She has been complaining about tooth ache. I noticed that she is showing the gum where the teeth is coming is paining. Please let me know if this could be the reason. Please advise what do I do next ?

Brief Answer:
Could be gum infection or bacterial infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I understand that your child is having fever for the past 3 to 4 days.
If the fever is still coming on and off, I think it could be gum infection or bacterial infections like typhoid which can cause gum pain.
In any case it is better to get blood tests done including complete blood count, blood culture , Widal for ruling out blood infections.
If tests are normal, it could be just localised gum infection .
It's better to start her on antibiotics like amoxicillin till the reports come.
Continue crocin .
Ensure she takes plenty of liquids to keep hydrated
Wishing her speedy recovery
