What Causes Fever, Chills Tremors And Cold After Walking?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: I'm in the DR for 1 and a half months, woke up Thursday really tired and went for a walk. Then had a massage. About 1 hour after the massage I started to shake, and get really cold. Got a fever that topped out at 103 that night then broke early morning. Since then I've been very crampy with runny foul stools. I drank a lot of water and gatorade thinking it was dehydration. Does this sound like that to you?

Brief Answer:
It might be due to inflammatory bowel disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
welcome to healthcare magic.

As you said that you had a history of inflammatory bowel disease(ulcerative colitis) before 20 to 25 years.

Here in your case, malabsorption could be the cause of foul smelling watery stools. It occurs when your body is unable to absorb the proper amount of nutrients from the food you eat as in case of inflammatory bowel disease like ulcerative colitis where eating certain foods will cause your intestines to become inflamed.

People with IBD often complain of foul-smelling diarrhoea with fever with chills, cramps etc.

The other causes could be gastroenteritis or food poisoning (ingesting food that has been contaminated with E. coli and Salmonella, viruses, bacteria, or parasites),irritable bowel syndrome, lactose intolerance, giardiasis.

You may undergo routine blood count, serum electrolytes with clinical examination of abdomen or ultrasound of abdomen.

You will require antibiotics(quinolones or cephalosporins or antiprotozoals etc.) with antiemetic, antispasmodics and antiinflammatories with prebiotics and probiotics.

There will be great need of fluid and electrolyte balance in the body.

So,you must consult physician for immediate treatment.
