What Causes Fever, Red Rashes Throughout The Body And Face In An Infant?

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Jun 2016
Question: Grandson, aged 19 months, has run a fever and has had a red rash covering body and face for 6 days. Doctors have ruled out roseola and we are awaiting results of lab test to check for rubella. However, since it he has had symptoms, including fever, for so many days, they will be running additional tests. Rash does not seem to bother him and as long as his fever is under control, he is fine and happy. They have not given him any antibiotics up to this point. What else could be causing these symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Please, upload an image for review!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these this that you have reported and all the inconveniences this must have caused your grandson. I have reviewed the information and would like to inspect an image of this bump. This way, I can provide a personalized and helpful response to you. What guides me with children is whether they can play and eat well. If that is guaranteed, there is no reason to be worried. Observe only and all will soon settle. Most rash in children is caused by viruses that generally require no specific treatment protocols. Am happy to know the doctors have not jumped to prescribing antibiotics as many do.

Brief Answer:
This slapped cheek appearance is suggestive unless otherwise!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The area around the mouths seems covered with a rash. Until proven otherwise, this is the most likely diagnosis. The rash must not be present on all area but, his age, appearance of that on the face and around the mouth is pretty suggestive.

Let me know what your thoughts are.
